Professional Development Programme: Latest updates and dates

The professional development programme run by the GrundbildungsPFADE Competence Centre begins on 15 September 2026. All places for this second intake have already been filled, but those interested can still be added to the waiting list.

Impact isn’t created at a desk – but through a shared process of reflection

For the past two years, the GrundbildungsPFADE Competence Centre has been supporting the ten projects within the ‘Basic Education Pathways’ funding priority in developing their own impact framework. The collaborative learning process plays a key role in this.

Save the date: AlphaDekade Conference 2026

The National Decade for Literacy and Basic Education (Nationale Dekade für Alphabetisierung und Grundbildung) is entering its final phase. On 1 December 2026, the final conference of the AlphaDekade will take place in Berlin under the theme ‘Strengthening basic education through networks’.

It will focus on taking stock of the past ten years and on the interim results of the ‘Basic Education Pathways’ funding priority, which was launched in 2024.

Greater visibility for basic education: Dialogue forum provides important impetus

The Competence Centre’s third dialogue forum, entitled ‘Basic Education in Local Education Management and Reporting’, focused on the question of how basic education can be embedded within local education systems.

Drawing on insights from academia, project work and local practice, the forum explored possible approaches and identified avenues for further action.

“Basic Education Pathways”: New issue of the ALFA Forum

The latest issue of the ALFA-Forum focuses on the funding priority ‘Basic Education Pathways’. The journal provides insights into the work of the Competence Centre and the ten funded collaborative projects.

Topics include research within the meta-project, the professional development programmes offered by the Competence Centre, and initiatives that have already been developed.

Registrations for professional development are now open

The professional development programme of the Competence Centre GrundbildungsPFADE will begin in autumn 2026. It offers those interested the opportunity to undertake further training in the areas of ‘basic education counselling’ and ‘network coordination’.

Designed as a blended learning programme, the course combines online self-study modules with digital reflection sessions.

Networking in Hamburg

‘Pathway Discussion’ – Part 3: How can key areas of basic education in Hamburg be strengthened and concrete measures implemented? GrundbildungsBrückenHamburg (GBHH) addressed these questions in the third round of his networking event.

The aim of the network meeting was to further develop approaches and perspectives and to define clear steps for the future.

Identifying and developing skills

The workshop ‘Competencies and Competency Development – Tools and Strategies’, held at the annual networking meeting in November 2025, demonstrated how important these components are for the development of basic education pathways.

The workshop led to the formation of a specialist and development group that will focus on the topic of skills.

Online information session

The digital professional development programme from the GrundbildungsPFADE Competence Centre will launch in autumn 2026, covering the fundamentals of literacy and basic education, as well as skills in basic education counselling and network coordination.

The online information session on 19 May 2026 will provide a concise overview of the programme’s content, structure and schedule.

Digital learning resources

The database Produktdatenbank Alphabetisierung und Grundbildung (PAG) brings together digital educational resources on various topics relating to literacy and basic education, and provides centralised access to materials from the Meta-project.

The database allows for simple and targeted searches, and the resources are made available free of charge.
