The Competence Centre analyses the development of basic education pathways from a broader perspective. The aim is to systematically examine and academically categorise the factors contributing to success and the challenges involved in establishing regional networks and designing seamless educational transitions.
Network analysis
The ten collaborative projects are developing their approaches through network-based cooperation. As part of a longitudinal network analysis, the constellations of stakeholders, cooperation structures and strategies for sustainability are being examined. This allows developments to be tracked over time and evaluated comparatively.
Educational decisions and data analysis
Another focus is on educational decisions and transitions for people with basic learning needs. To this end, surveys are being conducted among participants and target groups. In addition, the Competence Centre carries out secondary analyses of existing datasets and makes the findings available to the collaborative projects.

Evaluation of professional development programmes
The professional development programmes are scientifically monitored by the DIE and evaluated using both formative and summative methods. The aim is to analyse their quality, implementation and impact, and, on this basis, to provide valid input for the further development of the programmes.
Dialogue with practitioners and academia
Key research findings are discussed with the collaborative projects in formats such as dialogue forums and research workshops, and contextualised in relation to practice. At the same time, the Competence Centre contributes its findings to the academic community, for example through specialist publications, conference papers and exchanges within academic networks.
